experience experience mental or emotional distress every week in England alone

We believe that the way in which we currently live our lives, and the structures that hold them, are not conducive to positive mental wellbeing. We want to find ways to creatively reimagine a different future, personally and collectively.

About the Workshops

RE_Collect is series of creative workshops using collage and provocations to spark us to dream into the future. We use imagined and real images from the past as well as images, objects and textures from today to reimagine a world where our own wellbeing is central to our lives.

Collage is defined as 'an assemblage of different forms which allows creation of a new whole'. This feels like a fitting metaphor, as well as tool, to help us start to dream new ways of seeing the future. Plus it allows for endless reinterpretation and recreation.

We're inviting anyone with lived experience of emotional or mental distress to join us in creating new visions for the future. No need to be 'creative' but creativity is absolutely encouraged.

We hope these workshops will be personally fulfilling, as well as an opportunity to connect to others who want to dream differently when it comes to our mental health.

Artist & Facilitator

Asma Istwani employs art as a call to freedom from the issues that often plague and bind individuals away from self actualisation. Adding to the larger narrative surrounding identity and decolonisation her work makes bold statements about the racial and sexual depiction, representation and experience of women, with special interest to those who like herself; inhabit the MENA diaspora.  Asma is also the founder of RIOT SOUP, an art collective and community for Black & Brown women artists in London.
